Crofton Pack 731 has a terrific website and online newsletter, and I always enjoy reading about their activities. It’s been many years since my sons were cub scouts, but we have fond memories of Crofton Pack 731. ‘Guess that’s why I subscribe to their RSS feed… Who wouldn’t love to add another smile in their day?
One of our fondest memories from Crofton scouting days is the Pinewood Derby. I had to laugh at how excited my husband was when Steve brought home his first pinewood derby kit, and I laughed even more as I watched “the expert” instill his wisdom in our oldest son about how to build the fastest, sleekest, hottest car in Crofton. I remember it was glossy orange, with some black – and it didn’t win, much to the chagrin of both Larry and Steve. But they did have an incredible father-son time together building and racing the car.
Over the next couple of years, Tim also became a cub scout and, by then, our family car factory was one of the highlights of our year. More recently, I watched Tim in his role as a dad, helping his own son build a pinewood derby entry. More smiles! Well, we have two more grandsons who may yet bring home a Pinewood Derby win.
Today’s Crofton cubscouts have been building their cars under the watchful eyes of grown-ups in their families for the past several weeks, and the big event takes place on Saturday at Crofton Elementary School .
