CROFTON’S OWN CHERRY BLOSSOMS
While many people travel to Washington, D.C. from other parts of the country and the world for the National Cherry Blossom Festival, we can just travel around Crofton Parkway to see our very own Cherry Blossoms in bloom. Their initial planting was the brainchild of Crofton resident Kaye Callahan, who spearheaded this project, and generations of Crofton residents owe her a big thank you for years of beauty in our community.
Here are some of Crofton’s beautiful Cherry Blossoms, along with a few other signs of spring in our community. Simply scroll over the photos with your mouse to see the caption.

As I drove around Crofton to capture these photos, I couldn’t help noticing that most of our flowering trees have seen better days. Like some of Crofton’s residents, they have aged – but unlike us, they ARE replaceable.
If any individual or organization is currently working on a plan to replace these flowering trees (or plant some in other Crofton neighborhoods), let me know. I’m going to give some thought to what we might do as a community to replace our flowering trees over the next decade for future generations of Crofton residents to enjoy.
With an election coming up for the Crofton Civic Association this summer, I suggest that one thing all residents of the Special Taxing District can do is to raise this issue to the candidates.

Margaret,
Beautiful pictures. I’m planning to go to the Tidal Basin on Monday to see the Cherry Blossoms and celebrate my wife’s birthday.
