Crofton parents have many opportunities to get their kids into swim lessons from a very early age. Doing so is the best pool-safety advice anyone can give or receive. Unfortunately, accidents can and do happen, no matter how careful you are, and the best safeguard may be your child’s own ability to swim – or at least stay afloat.
Here’s a list for you of some local area swimming pools.
Crofton Country Club – 1691 Crofton Parkway, Crofton (410) 721–3111
Children must be 4 years old for group lessons, but the only requirement for private lessons is for them to be potty-trained. The beginners classes take place at 11 a.m., and advanced swimmers will be at 12 p.m. The cost is $45 for 4 days. Contact the swim coach and instructor, Ryan Rubush for details about private lessons. Ryan is well-qualified for this job, having competed on the swim team at Towson University, where he is pursuing an exercise science/pre-med degree. This will be his 4th year as coach and instructor at Crofton Country Club.
Crofton Swim & Tennis – 1719 Reynolds St., Crofton (410) 721–0699 or (410) 721–3133
Session 1 began on June 15, but you can still sign up for lessons throughout the summer. Session 2 begins on June 29, Session 3 begins on July 6, and the final session begins July 27.
Whitehall Pool & Tennis Club – Whitehall Dr., Bowie (301) 464–2662
Five week-long swim lesson sessions beginning June 22 at 10:00, 10:30, and 11:00 for Levels 1 and 2. Parent-child lessons are offered during the weeks of July 6 and 13.
