Never Too Cold for the Polar Bear Plunge!
January 29th, 2010 Categories: Crofton Events
There’s snow in the forecast as well as bitter cold for tomorrow (28 degrees, 16 degrees wind/chill), but that won’t stop determined plungers who have waited months to participate in the 14th Annual Plungapaloza at Sandy Point State Park.
Plunging into the frigid Chesapeake Bay to benefit Special Olympics Maryland at the annual Polar Bear Plunge will be several Baltimore Ravens, TV personalities from Channel 11, police officers from the City of Bowie, politicians including the current and previous Maryland governors and countless other people. It’s something you don’t want to miss – as a supporter and observer, if not a participant.
The event is free for spectators, and there will be lots to do in the huge HEATED tent: live entertainment, food, carnival-like amusements, costume contests, sand castle building and even a “Kids Zone” with everything from inflatables to games and face painting.
Parking options are many: Navy-Marine Corps Stadium in Annapolis, Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, and Kent Island High School on the Eastern Shore. For details about the free Polar Shuttle Express for each location visit Transportation/Parking Information.
