Almost 3 Feet of Snow in Crofton MD
February 8th, 2010 Categories: Crofton Real Estate
Crofton MD residents are shoveling out from 34 inches of snow, and the novelty is quickly wearing off. There’s a reason we chose Maryland to live, and not Buffalo NY!
But it is what it is, and this will be a great neighborhood bonding experience… right? You just keep telling yourself that!
Over 38 inches fell in nearby Elkridge, 26.5 inches at BWI Airport, 20 inches in DC, and “only” 13 inches in nearby Alexandria VA. This will help put our 34 inches in perspective when a co-worker says “it wasn’t so bad!” (‘Bet you won’t be hearing that from anyone living in Elkridge.)
Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley warns that road conditions are likely to be worse today than they were on Saturday, with re-frozen ice that was melted by chemicals yesterday. However, the Interstates and major roads are passable with shortened merge areas.
I don’t know about you, but I’m planning to stay home if at all possible!
If you must go out, be sure to check online for road problems so you can avoid them. You’ll find color-coded markers indicating disabled vehicles, accidents, congestion and other impediments to travel when you click on Interactive Mapping on the Maryland Department of Transportation website. Just zoom into the area where you plan to travel and click on the marker to see the nearest intersection.

Now let me put on my real estate agent hat and re-assure prospective home buyers that this is a record snowfall. I’ve lived in Crofton MD since 1970 and this is a first. In other words, don’t let this snowfall scare you away! We have some years with no snow at all.
