New Year’s Eve Annapolis – 2014
If you’ve never been to Annapolis, Maryland, for New Year’s Eve, mark it on your calendar for this year. The celebration begins at 3 p.m. with Town Crier John Squire Frederick leading the Annapolis Drum and Bugle Corps from the Market House to the Big Tent at Susan Campbell Park. The tent will be heated, but you’ll still want to dress appropriately for the weather outside.
Chesapeake Children’s Museum will be open from 3 – 7 p.m. for kids’ activities, and Laura Renee Davis will be face-painting. Then, at 4:30, look for The Magical Worlds of Jack Julius. From 5:30-6:40, join the GOOMBAY “Caribbean Experience” for a Limbo Contest. Meanwhile, most businesses and restaurants in the city will be open and many will feature special offers. D.J. Scott Hymes will start the music at 7 p.m. and Radio City will perform yesterday’s and today’s top hits for dancing, beginning at 10 p.m. As you can see from this busy schedule of events, there’s something for everyone!
The best part may be the FIREWORKS, and you don’t have to wait until midnight to see them. There will be fireworks at 7:30 p.m. AND again at midnight. (Many thanks to the local sponsors listed on the Annapolis.gov website.) The best viewing areas for fireworks will be at Susan Campbell Park and Main Street. Other suggested areas include public spaces northeast of the Severn River, any of the street-end parks facing Spa Creek and aboard a boat in the city harbor.
Restaurants and business will be open throughout the city on New Year’s Eve, and it might be a good idea to call ahead to find out if your favorite restaurant will take reservations. You can park in one of the city parking garages and ride the Circulator bus FREE right into the heart of the New Year’s Eve fun. Just ring the bell to stop and get off anywhere!
