Fun Things to Do In Bowie MD – EAT PANCAKES

Fun things to do in Bowie MD

National Pancake Day is taking place at IHOPs through the nation on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  It’s all part of their mission to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma.  Simply make a donation, and IHOP will give you a short stack of pancakes.

PancakesOf course they have plenty of other items on their menu, too, if you want to add eggs, sausage or bacon – or if you prefer to order waffles.  It just won’t be free.  But who doesn’t love a good breakfast, and National Pancake Day gives you a great excuse to take the time to treat yourself on a busy workday.

There’s an IHOP in Bowie at 15470 Annapolis Rd, and it’s a 24–hour location.  Several others are located in places that Bowie and Crofton residents commute to every day, including College Park (9680 Baltimore Ave), New Carrollton (8500 Annapolis Rd), Laurel (15004 Baltimore Ave).  For a complete list of IHOPS in the DC-Baltimore area, you can use the IHOP LOCATOR.

Congratulations to IHOP for raising $76,000 in 2010 by sponsoring this event.

MESSAGE TO IHOP:  How ’bout a future location in Annapolis, if not Crofton?

Fun Things To Do Near Crofton: Annapolis Restaurant Week

Gotta love living in Crofton, Maryland! So many fun things to do and see in all directions – from D.C. to Baltimore and, closer to home, Annapolis.

SeafoodWith 36 of the finest restaurants in Annapolis participating in Restaurant Week, continuing through Sunday, my family expects to dine in our State Capital city several times this week. The prices are reasonable at $15.95 for a 3-course lunch and $29.95 for a 3-course dinner.

We’ll want to visit our favorites, like Buddy’s, Carroll Creek Cafe and Yellowfin, but maybe we should use this opportunity to re-visit some old favorites we haven’t been to in recent years – The Treaty of Paris, Ram’s Head Tavern, and McGarvey’s come to mind.

Of course, it’s a good excuse to try some new places …The Melting Pot has been on our “to-do” list for quite a while and, admittedly, there are some Annapolis restaurants I know nothing about and should add to my list.  I just don’t think I can fit them all into a single week!

Check out the list of participating restaurants for Annapolis Restaurant Week before you make any dining-out plans between now and Sunday because some eateries in the city are not participating.  (Bah, humbug!)

Crofton residents will find parking in one of the downtown garages, and you can call eCruisers at (443)481-2422 for one of their vehicles to pick you up and take you to any of the participating restaurants.

Take Your Valentine to the Sweethearts Ball

ValentineSurprise your Valentine with tickets to Crofton’s Sweethearts Ball tucked into your Valentine card or flowers.

She’ll look forward to the event all week long and you’ll both have a great time on Saturday, February 19, at the Blue Dolphin Banquet Room.  Tre Williams will MC; Elliot Phillips will take photos; and Crofton songwriter and recording artist Ashley Forrest will perform.

The Blue Dolphin is going “all out” with a fabulous buffet spread for this event, and there will be a silent auction in addition to entertainment and dancing.  It should be a fun evening, not to mention it will benefit the Crofton Regional Community Center.

Order your tickets today for the first ever Crofton Sweethearts Ball so you’ll receive them in time to give your Sweetie on Valentine’s Day. Contact John Hollywood at (301) 261-3515 or click on Contact the CRCC.  Tickets are $150/couple and the deadline for your purchase is February 15.

National Wear Red Day is Friday, Feb. 4

Crofton residents, ladies AND men, don’t forget to wear red on Friday, February 4.  That’s because it’s National Wear Red Day.

Woman - red sweaterMake it YOUR mission to fight heart disease in women… it could save your life, your spouse, your mom, your daughter, your best friend.  It’s a fact that women are dying at the rate of one per minute from heart disease and stroke.  YOU can help.

Create awareness of this issue by simply wearing red on Friday  A red jacket, shirt, scarf… or have fun with it and wear red socks or a corny Valentine tie with hearts all over it.

Take it one step further and host an event at your office that day… or any place you plan to be.  Maybe the bowling alley, bridge club, or your neighborhood.  Why not have a mini bake-sale and offer home-made heart-shaped cookies in exchange for a donation to the American Heart Association?

Create awareness by clicking “Like” on the Go Red for Women Facebook page (I hardly believe that only one of my Facebook friends is among the 181,000 people who like this page.)  Come on… DO IT!

Raise money for the American Heart Association while enjoying your favorite pastime –  SHOPPING!  Save 20% at Macy’s February 2 – 6, and buy a red dress pin while you’re there.  100% of the proceeds for all pins sold during this event will go to this worthwhile cause.  You can buy it out of the savings you enjoyed shopping at Macy’s while wearing red.

Some of the other National sponsors: Cutco, Rite-Aid, Ocean Spray, Yankee Candle, and many others.  Most have a special offer of some kind this month, so be sure to visit their websites for details.

Many of us know we’re at risk for heart disease or stroke.  Maybe this would be a good day to start going to the gym, or changing our eating habits.
