Annual MSP Polar Bear Plunge on Saturday, January 29

BRRRR… I’m cold just thinking about the Polar Bear Plunge sponsored by the Maryland State Police to benefit Special Olympics Maryland.

Participants will literally “plunge” into the icy Chesapeake Bay at Sandy Point on Saturday, supported by pledges from their friends, relatives, co-workers and others for this important cause.

Polar Bear flipped

So far this year, almost $1,500,000 has already been pledged (1/25/11), and there are 3 more days to go.

Plenty of other things will be going on at Sandy Point for plungers and spectators alike on Saturday.  The best way to see the full schedule is to visit the PlungeMd website.

While you’re there, search for your favorite plunger (there were thousands of them last year) and make a pledge for Special Olympics Maryland.

The Excuse You’ve Been Waiting For to Dine Out

Steak DinnerBALTIMORE RESTAURANT WEEK takes place January 21–30, 2011 in every corner of the city.  Pre-fixed prices guarantee you can dine within your budget:  $35.11 for dinner and $20.11 for lunch.   Whether you’re in the mood for seafood or steak, Italian or Greek, there’s bound to be something you will enjoy.

Why not use this as an opportunity to explore Baltimore’s many unique neighborhoods, including Fell’s Point, Little Italy, Mount Vernon, the Inner Harbor, Canton, Federal Hill, Hampden, Harbor East… the list goes on and on.  For a complete list of restaurants, including links to their menus and a map, just click on Baltimore Restaurant Week.  You can even book reservations online for most of them.

But that’s not all…

BALTIMORE COUNTY RESTAURANT WEEK is already underway and continues until January 28.  Prices vary in these restaurants:  $10.11, $15.11 or $20.11 for lunches and $25.11, $30.11, or $35.11 for dinners.

Baltimore County is less convenient to Crofton than downtown Baltimore, but perhaps you have business to conduct or friends to visit in Baltimore County.  This would be a good excuse to do it now.  For a complete list of participating restaurants, including links to their websites and menus, click on Baltimore County Restaurant Week.

WASHINGTON, D.C. RESTAURANT WEEK is taking place now, as well.  Over 200 restaurants throughout the District are offer 3–course lunches for $20.11 and 3–course dinners for $35.11.  For a list of restaurants and links for making reservations click on Washington D.C. Restaurant Week.

Crofton Poinsettia Sale This Week

CROFTON VILLAGE GARDEN CLUB POINSETTIA SALE
November 1–12, 2010

Flower-poinsettia

Crofton MD residents are always busy… we never have enough hours in the day for everything going on in our lives.  No wonder we prefer to order poinsettia plants for the holidays from Crofton Village Garden Club rather than take the time to pick them up at the store or a nearby nursery.

100 % of the profits will go to Plant It Pink, the partnership between Susan G Komen for the Cure and National Garden Clubs, Inc. for breast cancer research and awareness.

All poinsettia plants will come with green foil pot covers, and each will be wrapped in a signature paper sleeve from Behnke’s Nursery.  They are available in 3 sizes and 4 colors, as follows:

Colors:  Red, White, Pink and Marble

Sizes:

Small (4–5 blooms) $10
Medium (6–7 blooms) $15
Large (7–12 blooms) $22

Have you thought about giving poinsettia plants for business gifts?  To your service providers such as your barber or manicurist… your child’s teachers… a neighbor who watches your house and waters your plants when you travel?

Place your order by emailing me at [email protected] and using Paypal to make your payment, or calling me at 301–346–2923 to make arrangements for a garden club member to pick up your order and payment.   Plants will be delivered to Crofton on December 6 and 7.

Thanks for supporting Plant It Pink!
