Crofton Residents Thank Vets With Flowers

Crofton Village Garden Club has its own unique way of saying “Thank You” to men and women who serve our country.

We have a workshop each year, in lieu of a monthly speaker at our November meeting, to create 120 red, white and blue flower arrangements for the Veterans Affairs Rehabilitation and Extended Care Center in nearby Baltimore.

Prior to the meeting,

Several of the arrangements, ready for deliveryAbout 40 club members participated in the workshop, arranging red and white mini-carnations with the boxwood in each can, adding the bow and “thank you” flag, and then finishing it off with silver foil around the container.

Later in the day, Sunny Frank and Bernie Robertson personally delivered the arrangements, placing one on each patient’s bedside tray.  They said it was very heart-warming to see the smiles these small tokens put on so many faces, but humbling at the same time.  Spending a morning with friends making these arrangements hardly seemed like an adequate thank you for young people who have given so much.

The Veterans Affairs Rehabilitation and Extended Care Center, located on Loch Raven Boulevard in Baltimore, has 120 in-patient beds and operates now at full capacity.  The center also provides medical treatment and rehabilitation on an outpatient basis.
