Reason #8 to Buy A Home in Crofton

Crofton, Maryland, is located within an hour of world-class medical care.  Literally.

Pedicatrics at Johns Hopkins is ranked #3 in the nationJohns Hopkins is the “Best of the Best” in U.S. News & World Report’s Honor Roll of America’s hospitals for the 17th consecutive year.  The Baltimore medical facility also ranked among the nation’s best in all 16 specialties, and #1 in Maryland in every specialty.

Of the 5,462 medical centers evaluated, only 173 hospitals made it into the rankings, and just eighteen ranked high enough in at least six specialties to qualify for the Honor Roll.  Hopkins topped such world-renowned medical centers as the Mayo Clinic, UCLA Medical Center, Cleveland Clinic, and Massachusetts General Hospital – which filled out the Top 5 Hospitals in the nation.  No other Maryland, Virginia or D.C. medical facility made the Honor Roll.

Several local hospitals did make it into the U.S. News and World Report rankings, however.  They include:

Military and Veterans Hospitals are not included in the rankings, but we know nearby Bethesda National Naval Medical Center and Walter Reed Army Medical Center are among the best (if not the best) military medical facilities in the world…  The provider of care to U.S. Presidents, Congress, our nation’s service members and their families, and many military retirees who live in Crofton and throughout the metropolitan area.

MedicalAlso about an hour from Crofton is The National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the primary Federal agency for conducting and supporting medical research. NIH scientists investigate ways to prevent disease as well as the causes, treatments, and even cures for common and rare diseases. Composed of 27 Institutes and Centers, the NIH provides leadership and financial support to researchers in every state and throughout the world.

Johns Hopkins and nearby Anne Arundel Medical Center recently signed an agreement to form an innovative strategic alliance that brings together experts and clinical programs from both institutions for increased access to quality medical care for patients in the region.   The agreement includes possible clinical programs, satellite health care centers, collaboration on clinical research, and exploration of the development of joint physician graduate medical education programs.

To say “There’s no better place in the nation to live for top notch medical care” is probably a true statement.  If you’re relocating to the Washington / Baltimore area, ask yourself if this is important to you.  While I may sometimes take it for granted because quality medical care has always been available to me, I can answer “yes” to that question – Members of my immediate family have been treated at the Bethesda Naval Hospital, the Washington Hospital Center, and Johns Hopkins, the #1 Medical Center in the Nation.

“World Class Medical Care” is my Reason #8 for buying your next home in Crofton, Maryland.
