Let’s Hear it for Greater Crofton Council

When I want to know what’s happening in and around this community, my #1 source is the Greater Crofton Council, an umbrella organization of local civic groups in Davidsonville, Gambrills and Odenton, as well as Crofton.

Text Box GCCNo, this is not a campaign speech – I’m not running for President or any other office of the organization, and I’m not even a member.  In fact, I’m one of those people that active members probably shake their head about and say “Why don’t more people get involved?”    .

Whether you’re actively involved in the GCC or not, everyone who lives in Crofton, Davidsonville, Gambrills and Odenton has benefited in some way from their efforts to:

Have you visited the Greater Crofton Council website lately?

In addition to photos and a recap from their most recent meeting, you’ll find links to sources of information about the environment, planning and zoning, education, transportation, county offices, civic groups, and community organizations.  Be sure to click on the link and check it out.

Have you ever attended one of their meetings?

Why not start with the one scheduled on October 14 at 7 p.m. in the Village Commons Community Center at The Village at Waugh Chapel.  They meet on the second Tuesday of every month, although next month (November 2008) will be an exception due to the Veterans Day holiday.

As a resident of “Old” Crofton, I’ve always been puzzled that the Crofton Civic Association doesn’t belong to the GCC.  It seems to me the two organizations have compatible goals, and our impact on decision-makers who control the area around us would be far greater as members than it is as non-members.  The candidates night sponsored jointly by the two organizations in September was a good start towards recognition of that.

Many thanks to Art Huseonica for reaching out and asking me to post the meeting announcement for October.  Hopefully it didn’t get lost in this long post – Again, it’s on October 14, 7 p.m. at The Village of Waugh Chapel.
