A Valentine’s Day Challenge

Make something special for your Valentine this year

Be My Valentine!

A special dinner, flowers, a box of chocolates, jewelry…  You can’t go wrong with any of these Valentine’s Day staples.  I’ve given or received them many times over the years, and they were always a big hit.

One year, however, Larry made something special – a chocolate bag filled with strawberries and whipped cream – and it’s a Valentine I’ll never forget.  I promise you, nothing says “I love you” like a gift from the heart, something you make for your sweetie.

Whether you’ve been married “forever” like we have, or you’re celebrating your first Valentine’s Day with someone special, I challenge you to try something creative like this.

What you’ll need:

How-to:

1.  Place chocolate in a glass bowl and microwave ’til chocolate is melted and smooth (about 3 minutes, but stirring every 20-30 seconds); OR melt the chocolate in a double-boiler over a low heat on the stove, stirring until smooth.

2.  Pour a little of the melted chocolate in the bottom of the bag, making sure to cover the entire bottom with a thin layer, and using a pastry brush to spread it into the corners.

3.  Coat the sides of the bag interior with a thin layer of chocolate, again using the pastry brush.

4.  Place the bag (on a plate) in the freezer for about an hour.

5.  Repeat the chocolate coating, if desired (optional), and place it in the freezer for several hours before serving.  (If it’s cold enough outside, you may use your garage as a freezer so your Valentine doesn’t see it.)

6.  At serving time, carefully peel off the wax-coated bag and place the chocolate shell on a plate.

7.  Fill the chocolate bag with layers of whipped cream and strawberries, and serve to your Valentine.  (You’ll need TWO spoons because there’s more than enough to share.)

There’s just one problem with this special Valentine… it will be a hard act to follow in future years!
