The Adventures of Dr. Dolittle Opens Tonight

The Spring production of Children’s Theatre of Annapolis (CTA) opens tonight in Annapolis and runs through next Sunday at their theater located on Bay Head Road in Annapolis.  It’s only about a half hour from the Greater Crofton Area, and I think your children would enjoy it.  It’s a great opportunity for them to experience live theater in an environment that is child-friendly.  Even the performers are kids!

The Adventures of Dr. Dolittle is based on the The Story of Doctor Dolittle: Being the History of His Peculiar Life at Home and Astonishing Adventure in Foreign Parts Never Before Printed, by Hugh Lofting.

ParrotYou’ll see a Doctor (John Dolittle) who loves animals and, through his parrot (Polynesia), learns to speak with them.  As word of Dr. Dolittle’s uncanny ability spreads throughout the world, his adventures begin – including the discovery of a shy two-headed gazelle-unicorn cross known as the pushmi-pullyu.  The 30+ local youngsters, ages 8–14, will entertain you like you’ve never been entertained before with their performances as pirates, villagers, lions and other animals.

Here’s the schedule of performances:

And here’s how you can get tickets:

Tickets are $15 general admission or $12 for children 12 and under or seniors 60 and over.

My daughter Susan is an “alum” of CTA and even won their Miriam Wolfe scholarship as a high school senior.  Her CTA experience helped her learn auditioning and performance skills that prepared her for several lead roles in community theater as an adult.  I know she treasures her CTA years and she joins me in highly recommending that you take your children to see this performance and enroll them in CTA’s future activities.

Check out the CTA website for more information, including news about their summer camps and other upcoming events.  If you’re new to the Greater Crofton Area and think Annapolis might be too far for your children’s activities, I suspect you’ll find there are many children from this area who participate in CTA.  Carpooling was rarely an issue for us and, in fact, we enjoyed getting involved ourselves – making costumes, building sets and the like.
