Who is That Person Knocking on Your Door?

The Better Business Bureau warns that we should be cautions about anyone claiming to be a census worker.

Door knockerCensus Day in Maryland is not until April 1, 2010.  Anyone coming to your door, phoning you or e-mailing you and claiming to be a census worker in the meantime is not a legitimate census worker. Do not give them any information about you or your household.

According to the Maryland Census Office, the 2010 Census is a “short form” census that collects only basic information such as age, sex, race, origin, household relationships and whether your home is rented or owned.  They will not ask for your social security number or any credit/banking information.

SAFETY TIPS:

No doubt scammers will be out in force pretending to collect private information for the U.S. Census.  Don’t be a victim!  If it’s any day other than April 10, 2010, it’s not a census worker knocking on your door!
