Do You Know Where Your Pre-Teen or Teen is Hanging Out?

Kids in Crofton are blessed to have many options for keeping busy and safe…

Help build a community center for these kids to hang out.The Crofton Athletic Council offers sports for every age and every season, there are scout troops and church youth groups, and we have basketball courts, tennis courts, golf courses, swimming pools, a roller-skating rink, go-cart raceway, jogging trail and parks in the Crofton area.  Few communities offer this many opportunities to young residents.

Yet I’m sure that Crofton-area teens and pre-teens are among those that hang out at Annapolis Mall in the winter months, claiming there’s “nothing” to do.  Kids are probably relatively safe there, but wouldn’t it be nice to have a facility right here in the Crofton area that could serve as a gathering place for local teens and pre-teens?

Community leaders have talked about this for decades, but now a community center is actually taking shape under the leadership of former Maryland State Senator Janet Greenip, County Executive John Leopold, Greater Crofton Council President Art Huseonica, Crofton Civic Association President Steve Grimaud, and many others.  It is critical for you to get on board, too, and do what you can to help make the CROFTON REGIONAL COMMUNITY CENTER and SKATE PARK a reality.

You can begin by attending a meeting tomorrow night at Crofton Town Hall (1576 Crofton Parkway, adjacent to Crofton Elementary School) at 7 p.m.  The agenda includes developing a calendar of events and fundraising drive for the year.

Kauffman's supports the CRCCKaufmann’s Restaurant (329 Gambrills Road, Gambrills) is one of the first local businesses to make a commitment to this project:  When you dine there on any Wednesday through April, just ask your server for a charity card and designate CRCC as the recipient.  10% of your meal purchase will go towards this project.  The next time you dine out on a Wednesday, make Kaufmann’s your destination!

Mark your calendar now for the next meeting:  January 13, 7 p.m. at Kaufmann’s.  For more information, please contact Janet Greenip at 410–721–0050.
