What’s Your Family Having for Dinner Tonight?

PastaFunny how we human beings are… we often don’t fully appreciate our health, our loved ones, or even our jobs til they’re gone.  The same can be said for our next meal. . .

If you’re trying to decide between Damon’s or Applebee’s tonight, you’re probably not thinking about those without any dinner because their wallets, bank accounts and pantries are empty.  So I ask you to pause for just a minute before you go out to dinner tonight and consider what’s in your kitchen cabinets that you can spare.

Mine has a can of seasoned beans we picked up by mistake when we intended to buy unseasoned… peanut butter I got in one of those “buy one, get another free” deals… brownie mix that tempts me to go off my current diet…  Or maybe you have some disposable diapers purchased to have on hand for your new grandbaby (the one who’s in 2nd grade now) and you never even opened the package – some folks need those and household cleaning supplies, as well as food.

Child eatingWhy not take a few minutes this weekend to look through your pantry and pick out some non-perishable food and household items to donate to Harvest for the Hungry.  You can drop off your donation right here in Crofton at Long & Foster REALTORS, 2191 Defense Hwy, #121 (near Rita’s Ice).  If you’re doing okay in this economy, maybe you’d even be willing to pick up an extra bag of food and household items at the grocery store (or The Dollar Tree) this weekend.

Your donations will be delivered to the Anne Arundel County Food Bank to help local families – maybe even some of your Crofton area neighbors.  Please take a minute to click though on this link to the Food Bank’s website and learn about their many programs:  Operation Food Sharing, their Soup Kitchen Program, a Nutritional Diet Program, even a Program for Furniture and Professional Medical Equipment.

Crofton residents are known for our generosity, and there’s probably not been a time of greater need in this county since Harvest for the Hungry began in 1987.
