Pet Registration Info for Crofton Residents

The moving truck has come and gone, most of the boxes are unpacked in your new Crofton home, and your kids are attending their new school.  The next item on your to-do list is probably “register my pet” but you have no idea where to go or even who to call.

Maybe this will help:

Cat and girlPet registration requirement

Any 4–month old dog or cat residing in Anne Arundel County must be registered.   If you moved from another address in the county, you must notify them of your new address.

Pet licenses may be purchased (or your address updated) through the mail or in person –  sorry, not online –  at 411 Maxwell Frye Rd., Millersville, Md 21108.  Their hours are 10 a.m. –  3 p.m. Tuesday thru Saturday.

What you’ll need to register your pet

1.  Proof of a current rabies vaccination.

2.  A small fee, which varies as follows:

  • $15 for each un-neutered/un-spayed dog or cat
  • $ 4 for each neutered or spayed dog or cat
  • $ 8 for each un-neutered/un-spayed dog IF the owner is 60 years of age or older, or is disabled
  • No charge for each neutered/spayed dog or cat IF the owner is 60 years of age or older, or is disabled.
  • No charge for any seeing eye, hearing ear, special assistance, service dog, or a K-9 trained and registered dog.

Boy and dog croppedWhen

Four months old is the “magic” age…  If your dog or cat is four months old, it must be registered within ten days of moving into the county or your obtaining the pet.  If your pet is younger than that “magic” age, you must apply for a license within 10 days of it reaching that age.

Expiration and renewal

Your pet’s license will expire in a year on the last day of the anniversary month and must be renewed annually.  You’ll receive an application for renewal in the mail, and you can simply return it with a copy of the updated rabies certificate.

When your pet license is received from Anne Arundel County, it will be accompanied by a numbered metal license ID tag that the pet must wear at all times.

For answers to any questions about pet registration, contact (410) 222–8900.
