De-Cluttering is the First Step in Home-Sale Prep

ClutterVery few Crofton residents can put a “for sale” sign in front of our home and expect it to sell.  Not in this highly-competitive market.  That’s because we live in our home – collecting clutter, decorating it in our own personal style, and sometimes ignoring needed repairs and updates.  It’s not the look most buyers want.  Selling a home takes preparation.

The CONDITION of our homes has never been more important to selling than it is today, as we compete with more than 150 other home sellers in our own zipcode (Crofton).  Again, can we say “highly competitive” market?

Getting our homes ready to sell is not like getting it ready for a holiday party.

ClosetProspective buyers look at homes through a different lens than guests do –  and, yes, they DO look into closets, that extra bedroom, and the garage.  They’ll be trying to imagine their own belongings in the home; evaluating it for any cleaning, repairs, and updating it may need; and comparing it to those 150+ other homes on the market in Crofton MD.

The first step to preparing your home for sale is to DE-CLUTTER it.  I don’t mean to understate that chore because, for many people, it’s a long-term project.  Even if you’re not planning on selling your home for another year or two, it’s not too soon to start de-cluttering now.

There are four other steps in preparing your Crofton home to put on the market, but let’s get this one under control before we talk about them.
