Walking the Parkway – a Rite of Spring in Crofton

Crofton cherry treesOne of the things I love about Crofton is the flowering trees that line the main street in “Old Crofton” – Crofton Parkway.

We really must thank Crofton resident Kathryn Callahan for having the vision to spearhead the planting of these trees four decades ago.

Crofton Parkway is a favorite route for walkers, runners, and cyclists year-round.  At this time of year, however, sidewalks get a little more crowded as the cherry blossoms seem to trigger “Spring Fever” among residents young and old.  Elsewhere in the community, the white blossoms of Bradford Callory Pear trees shade the streets, while Magnolia trees, forsythia, and daffodils add splashes of color.

If you’ve been rushing hither and yon without taking the time to look around and appreciate Crofton in the Spring, try to do it soon –  before those flowers disappear for another year.
