Crofton Commuting Guide for Relocating Military Personnel

You have PCS orders to an installation in or near D.C., but the area is so massive… how can you decide where to focus your home search?

Flags over Crofton ParkwayNorthern Virginia, the District of Columbia and several Maryland counties beckon, but one area always stands out:  Crofton.

It’s a military-friendly community that holds an Armed Forces Day parade annually, and American flags fly high above Crofton Parkway year-round.

Excellent schools, affordable homes, and an easy commute to military facilities throughout the area are three more good reasons to choose a home and neighborhood in Crofton or nearby Gambrills, Davidsonville, Odenton and Bowie for your next home.

Fort Meade, USNA, Andrews AFB

These distances are measured from the intersections of Rt. 450 and Rt. 3 near the former location of Jaspers.  As you can see, only Fort Belvoir is over 30 miles.  The commuting time to military installations on this list will vary, depending on time of day and traffic – but at least three of them are about a half-hour most days, even during rush hour.

At the very least, before you decide on any other community, take a tour of Crofton during your house-hunting visit to the D.C. area.  I’ll recommend a place to stay when you’re here, take you on a tour of various neighborhoods, and answer your questions from the perspectives of a military wife, local resident, real estate expert, and D.C. native familiar with Northern Virginia and other Maryland counties.
