Crofton Regional Community Center Update from Donna

The “Voice” for Crofton Regional Community Center is Donna Doyle – a long time resident of Crofton who wears many hats for the CRCC.  She has chaired fund-raising events and manned the information booth events, but probably her most constant role has been one of communicator.  She’s a volunteer that anyone would love to have in their organization.

Donna keeps me informed about the CRCC through weekly emails, and you’ll find little snippets from these reports included in many of my blog posts (such as my recent post about the Crofton Craft Fair).  Today, I’m going to share with you some of the upcoming CRCC events Donna mentioned this week so you can mark them on your calendar now.

General Meeting –  October 27, 2011

Next on the CRCC agenda is its general meeting on October 27 at the Nautilus Diner. The final results of the feasibility study will be unveiled for all to see. The general public is encouraged to attend and listen and ask questions. Those who would order dinner are encouraged to arrive by 6 p.m.. The actual meeting starts promptly at 7 and usually lasts about an hour and a half.

Greater Crofton Community Awards Banquet –  November 4

On Nov. 4, the CRCC will honor their Citizen of the Year at the Greater Crofton Community Awards Banquet at the Crofton Country Club.  Nine different organizations  will be honoring their individual Citizen of the Year. Ticket price is $37 per person and RSVP is October 28. For more information call Judy Wilson at 410-721-9131

Book Lover’s Auction –  November 12, 2011

This fundraiser takes place on Nov. 12, just in time to start Christmas shopping. The hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. while a Free Children’s Festival is held outside in the parking lot of the Blue Dolphin Restaurant. This is a huge affair and has something for everyone with 19 different authors attending in person. Lots and lots of books of all kinds, sizes and descriptions. Many are autographed. Plus audio books, autographed pictures, CD’s, and many miscellaneous items. For the admission price of $5 for the first 50 people and $10 thereafter, food and drink is also included. Call Rev. Shawn Gegede at 443-302-9598 to reserve your ticket now and take advantage of the reduction in price.

E-Reader Raffle

We are raffling off three E-Readers, with the drawing being held around 6:30 pm on Nov. 12. The cost of a raffle ticket is $10, or 3 for $25. Besides all this, gift cards to stores that sell books will be the door prizes and, last but not least, hundreds of free books will be given away as each person pays for their purchases.

Many thanks to Donna and all the volunteers who are giving so much of themselves to make the Crofton Regional Community Center a reality for future generations in our community.  Even without the building, we’re already seeing them bring various Crofton communities and people together in support of this effort.  And bringing people together is what any community center is all about, isn’t it?
