Is Your Pet Licensed?

Pet licensing for Crofton residents

Do you know that Anne Arundel County Code requires licensing for all cats and dogs? If not, this is simple to remedy.

You can obtain an animal license application online at Just print it out, complete it and mail it with the applicable fees to the address on the form. Unfortunately, the application cannot be completed online.  Another option for licensing your cat or dog is to stop by the shelter and complete the process in person.

Spayed or neutered pets

NOT spayed or neutered

A three year license is available only if your pet’s rabies vaccination is good for a three year period, starting with the current year.
Important Reminders when Licensing:
A pet can not be registered unless its rabies vaccination is up to date. Proof of rabies must be submitted with the application. (Copies only, originals will not be returned)
Proof of eligibility for discounts must also be submitted. For example proof of spay or neuter and senior discount. Documentation from your veterinarian will show proof of spay or neuter. A copy of your driver’s license will show proof of age. (Again, copies only. Originals will not be returned.)
Your pet’s license must be kept up to date along with its rabies vaccinations. Once your pet is licensed, you will get a reminder in the mail when the license needs to be renewed.
Dog - cocker spanielBenefits of Licensing:
Licensed pets, wearing their license, can be reunited with their families more quickly and owners can know the whereabouts of their pets sooner.
In the event of an emergency in the county accurate information on the number and types of pets in the affected areas would allow the county to be better prepared to help citizens with pets.

Licensing your pet is a simple process and less expensive than it is to NOTregister. Fines for not registering your cat or dog can range from $50.00 to $500.00.
If you have any questions on how to license your pet, call the shelter at 410.222.8900 or submit your question to [email protected]
