Crofton Craft Fair Today

Fun things to do in Crofton MD - Copyright Image 2010. Margaret Woda

It should be sunny and 85 degrees today for the Crofton Craft Fair at Crofton Country Club, in the heart of Old Crofton.

The event is held twice a year by the Crofton Town Club (formerly the Crofton Newcomers Club) on the last Saturday of September and April.  It’s a long-standing community tradition that you don’t want to miss.

Come on down and check out the local community organizations and crafters between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., rain or shine.

If you happen to notice the aroma of barbeque chicken, just follow your nose to the north parking lot of the Crofton Village Green, on the other side of Crofton Parkway.  Chances are there will be some scouts and parents there, cooking chicken and boxing it with rolls for you to take home.  Yummy!

Adoption Show at Annapolis PETSMART Sunday

Oldies But Goodies (OBG) Cocker Spaniel Rescue is partnering with PETSMART stores throughout the region to showcase the dogs they have available for adoption.

On Sunday, August 8, one of these events will take place 12–3 p.m. at the Annapolis PETSMART at 2601 Housley Road, off Rt. 450.  (Click on MAP.)  Turn at Best Buy, opposite Home Depot.

Dog - cocker spanielThe need for families to adopt pets is even greater now than usual, with so many pet-owners displaced by foreclosure.  Over-crowded animal shelters in some states are literally loading up vans full of pets and taking them to shelters in other parts of the country where foreclosures aren’t so high and abandoned pets are not so many.  In fact, I read recently where the Anne Arundel County SPCA had accepted many of them for adoption.

One of the things I like about OBG is that dogs awaiting adoption are not warehoused in shelters, but they’re cared for by foster families in their own homes.  In many cases, foster families have pets of their own, so this arrangement helps the future adoptee become (or remain) socialized with other animals, as well as with people.

For a preview of dogs available for adoption, visit the OBG website.  You’ll find irresistible photos and descriptions like this one:

If I had to describe myself in one word, it would be “snugglebunny”… I often ask my mom to pick me up and when she does I like her to hold me and then she puts her nose to mine… and then I give her a quick kiss!  I follow her footsteps on the floor…

Really, who could resist?  If one of the dogs on the website catches your eye, OBG will make an effort to take him/her to the show –  if not, they’ll make arrangements for you to have a private introduction.

Don’t miss this event on Sunday at PETSMART in Annapolis on Sunday if you’ve been thinking about getting a dog.  Sure, puppies are cute, but they’re also expensive.  Adoption fees are low and there’s a real need for families like yours to welcome an older dog into your family.  Just think… you probably won’t have to worry about house-breaking or chewed furniture legs, as you would with a puppy.  Now those are two very good reasons to adopt a cocker spaniel!

Rita’s is the latest to join the parade of community businesses, organizations and individuals working hard to make the CRCC a reality, after years of dreaming about it.

You can stop by on your way home from work, or take the family out for dessert tonight.  It’s located on Defense Highway between Rt. 3 and Priest Bridge Road.

Besides Italian Ice, their signature product, Rita’s offers Cream Ice, Gelati, Custard, Misto, Blendini, Ritaccino… Check out Rita’s menu online before you go for descriptions and pictures of these yummy treats so you’ll be ready to order when you get to the window.

Many thanks to Rita’s Ice for holding this event to benefit the Crofton Regional Community Center, and thank you Suzy Estrada for chairing it.
